Blogs Spot #4: Main Line Dads!

MAINLINEDADS

We here at Poppin’ Bottles love to get together with our fellow Pennsylvania dads and this case is no different! Eric Raymond from Main Line Dads filled out our little questionnaire and we’re happy to have him as part of our Blogs Spot feature!

1: Besides becoming a parent, what made you decide to blog and are you still blogging for the same reason? Have you evolved since you started, and if so, how?

I decided to blog mainly because I run a dads group called MainLineDads. I wanted to have a place where other dads could exchange ideas and advice but it turned out to be more of a place to set up events and share articles and unite our thoughts. My blog allowed me to voice my personal take on subjects that I felt were important. I just recently started my blog so the evolution of the blog is still forming but has transformed from just the group on Facebook to this.

2: Out of all your posts, which do you think resonated most with others and why?

So far I literally only have three posts officially published and I have two or three that are currently being worked on. For a new blog, I think they all have gotten some good attention for different reasons.

Sexy Daddy

Ban or Not? Playdate Drama

These are both specifically about Dads and the issues we face socially such as the playdate drama and personal self image. We aren’t impervious to all issues and these two posts touch on that aspect.

3: How do you think/hope your child/children will view your blog later in life?

I hope that my children will view my blog as a historical documentation of the evolution of parenting. We aren’t perfect but as stay at home dads we are energetic and excited about learning and adjusting our jobs as parents for the better. Not that our children will follow this as a “handbook” but perhaps just understanding that gender roles should be done away with and that as long as you put your family first then parenting will always be healthy, good and successful.

4: What kind of parenting advice have you received that you actually used in raising your little one?

Some of the blogs that I follow help to put a humorous spin on a lot of some of the stressful parts of parenting. The only way we can be successful dads is to not get stressed out!

5. What do you hope to gain from blogging? What are your goals, where do you see it going?

I hope to develop my writing skills and also develop my posts so they can reach more people and help parents in general to understand that we aren’t perfect. My goals are ambitious. I would love to become the “web MD” of parenting for dads. If you have a question about something regarding parenting then you come to mainlinedadspa.wordpress.com (eventually just “.com” soon). It would also be great if my blog can generate income enough for me to continue to be a stay-at-home dad and help others.

Blogs Spot #3: Day Parent Dad

DAYPARENTDAD

This week Russell Peterson gives us some insight via our Blogs Spot! Drop by his website HERE, and enjoy!

1: Besides becoming a parent, what made you decide to blog and are you still blogging for the same reason? Have you evolved since you started, and if so, how?

I decided to blog for several reasons. As a parent of older children, I thought it would be helpful to pass along insights from a few years of experience. Second, I am passionate about cooking and nutrition at home. After posting food and recipes on Facebook, I was encouraged by friends to blog about it publicly. Finally, after having a heart attack and not knowing how long I had to live, I wanted a place for my children and grandchildren to see what I was about: sort of an online scrapbook about my life, family history and our lifestyle. It is evolving every day and is becoming more of a lifestyle entertainment and education website. Even now I am changing an existing section of the websites. I am revamping a page of liked products I call Dad’s Best to be more of a review and endorsement blog. I’m also going to add a new blog on surviving a heart attack and how it has evolved me and my family.

2: Out of all your posts, which do you think resonated most with others and why?

There have been several equally received. They mostly have to do with either kindness in the world or a recipe with a great food picture in it. The stomach is a powerful device. However, I think this recent post has had the most feedback across multiple social media sites.

18 Positive Things A Dad Should Do Before His Daughter Gets Booted Out Of The Nest

It is hard to let our children go, no matter the transition: daycare, first day of school, a camping trip. But probably the most difficult is sending them off to college after high school, especially if they are going to live in another city. It seems more permanent and scary, at least for the parents. This was a funny post that made us look at our foibles as dads, think creatively about our relationships, and understand the complexities between a father and his daughter.

3: How do you think/hope your child/children will view your blog later in life?

They are going to laugh and tell their children how crazy it was growing up with their nutso grandfather. At least I hope they will tell them that their job is to be an improvement over the previous model, just like they were.

4: What kind of parenting advice have you received that you actually used in raising your little one?

Don’t take it too seriously. Yes it is serious. Just don’t take it that way.

5. What do you hope to gain from blogging? What are your goals, where do you see it going?

I hope to gain friends, knowledge, and comfort. My goal is to live a long and productive life and hopefully connect with incredible people and places.

Your Baby’s 1st Birthday is Also Mama’s 1st Birthday

Today, when I logged onto Facebook for the first time, I had a notification that my wife had posted something on my wall. What, you ask, was it? It was this awesome video by PampersJapan. It shows moms talking about their first year of being a mother. And when they walk out into a hallway, they see photos hung on the walls of them with their baby. Hung by their husbands. It is a pretty great video.

Go ahead and watch it. And while you’re at it, moms–let us know how you felt through your first year as a mom!

E38: Shuggilippo – ALL THE EMOTICONS

photo (3)We welcomed Jess Sanfillippo from SHUGGILIPPO to the show this week. We talked about all sorts of nonsense, as we typically do. Topics ranged from Jess’ recent projects, promoting the film PREGGOLAND, and how SHUGGILIPPO came to be. We also talked the super unstuffy topic of making money as a blogger/content creator.

It was quite the riveting episode. We laughed a lot. Made fart jokes. Made boner jokes. All the things you’d expect from us. You can listen down below. And enjoy some of the preview tweets we sent out during the show! Like her on Facebook and follow her on Twitter!

Blogs Spot #2: Josh Gloer, #NEWDAD

#NEWDAD Josh Gloer is our Blogs Spot focus this week! His collection of photos, a book called “#NEWDAD is now available! Check out the book, as well as his website HERE!

1: Besides becoming a parent, what made you decide to blog and are you still blogging for the same reason? Have you evolved since you started, and if so, how?

I’m more of a dad “Tweeter” than a dad Blogger. I’ve written professionally for almost 15 years in the TV world. I’ve written for magazines, fiction anthologies, and website… it was a natural extension. It consumes my every waking minute, in the best way possible, so I might as well write about it.

2: Out of all your posts, which do you think resonated most with others and why?

My book #NEWDAD is a product of a tweet that kind of blew up. Not “Chris Bernholdt” blew up, but for me it was a hit. “I just took a nap… At a stoplight. #NEWDAD” So I decided, why not make a social media style photo book, and #NEWDAD was born. That post prob got the most attention.

3: How do you think/hope your child/children will view your blog later in life?

I hope my daughter, who’s pictured in a lot of the posts, thinks it’s funny, and realizes that I’m humiliating us both because I care so much. It’s done out of love.

4: What kind of parenting advice have you received that you actually used in raising your little one?

I need to hover less. It was said maliciously, but I’ve realized that I do hover. I’m super chill. Super laid back, but when it comes to my daughter, I hover. Sometimes she just needs to run, explore and figure things out on her own. And I need to let her… But I’ll always be close by.

5. What do you hope to gain from blogging? What are your goals, where do you see it going?

The best thing I’ve gotten out of blogging is the dad community that comes along with the act of writing about kids. It’s an isolating thing, being a parent, and 24/7 I know I can find my Dad’s Group online. Someone will be there. Someone will be chatting. Whether it’s a dick joke or a kid problem, someone is reaching out.

#PREGGOLAND

preggoland

There is much in the way of parenting films these days, and there are even a handful of “young person accidentally gets pregnant” types out there. But very few touch on the feelings of a person surrounded by the parenting universe and feeling it’s pressure. There are seemingly endless Romantic Comedy’s that focus on the “young woman pressured to have a child is trying to make her relationship work” and all that nonsense, but what about a REAL WORLD situation? What about somebody telling a little white lie to fit in? Then what if that little white lie turns into a bigger, hilarious ordeal?

Preggoland.

Written by, and starring Sonja Bennett (Random Acts of Romance) “Preggoland” follows 35-year-old Ruth who ruins a baby shower with her juvenile antics. Afterword, her old high school cronies (who are all mothers now) promptly de-friend her. But when she is later mistakenly thought to be ‘with child’ she is surprisingly welcomed back into the group. She initially tries to come clean, but the perks of pregnancy are far too seductive to ignore, and she soon finds herself living a lie. Co-starring Dany Trejo, James Caan, and Paul Campbell, check out this comedy about our societal obsession with babies and the lengths we’ll go to be part of a club.

Sound like something you’re into? Well you can take it one step further: Help finish the movie! The project is NEARLY completed but we still need a bit of help to pull it all together. Via Indiegogo.com, we’re raising the final funding we need to finish this already awesome flick, and we hope you’ll help out! Check out the awesome perks listed on the page for each donation, but remember, every cent counts and the biggest perk of all is that YOU HELPED BRING THIS MOVIE TO LIFE.

GEEKDADDIO

We’re happy to have Michael as our first feature on Blogs Spot! As Geek Daddio of 4, he blogs about all his adventures of being a Dad, as well as healthy food recipes and his photography. Be sure to check him out  HERE!

1: Besides becoming a parent, what made you decide to blog and are you still blogging for the same reason? Have you evolved since you started, and if so, how?
I have always been interested in it since I was a kid. In 6th grade I had a Geocities page where I would post pictures of things I liked and funny graphics. In high school I went to love journal  and then when I graduated I regularly posted on my Myspace page like it was a blog. I created the page I am currently doing in 2005 and it has gone from me complaining about life as a 20 year old, to talking about school, focused on health and eventually to what it is now, parenting and health.
2: Out of all your posts, which do you think resonated most with others and why?
My post about my nephew Kienan, whom died at 2 days old. It is a story so many people have experienced and if they haven’t then they understand the pain.
3: How do you think/hope your child/children will view your blog later in life?
I hope they see it as a time machine into who I was at that time. Something where they can go back and see what my thoughts were and see my point if view on things that they remember.
4: What kind of parenting advice have you received that you actually used in raising your little one?
Learn to read upside down. It makes things so much easier when your reading a book to them and can’t put the book flat for yourself. It come natural to some but for me I had to train myself to do it.
5. What do you hope to gain from blogging? What are your goals, where do you see it going?
I want to learn what my skills as a writer are and be able to hone them. I eventually want to write a book about my kids and the funny things they say and do.
