Blogs Spot #2: Josh Gloer, #NEWDAD

#NEWDAD Josh Gloer is our Blogs Spot focus this week! His collection of photos, a book called “#NEWDAD is now available! Check out the book, as well as his website HERE!

1: Besides becoming a parent, what made you decide to blog and are you still blogging for the same reason? Have you evolved since you started, and if so, how?

I’m more of a dad “Tweeter” than a dad Blogger. I’ve written professionally for almost 15 years in the TV world. I’ve written for magazines, fiction anthologies, and website… it was a natural extension. It consumes my every waking minute, in the best way possible, so I might as well write about it.

2: Out of all your posts, which do you think resonated most with others and why?

My book #NEWDAD is a product of a tweet that kind of blew up. Not “Chris Bernholdt” blew up, but for me it was a hit. “I just took a nap… At a stoplight. #NEWDAD” So I decided, why not make a social media style photo book, and #NEWDAD was born. That post prob got the most attention.

3: How do you think/hope your child/children will view your blog later in life?

I hope my daughter, who’s pictured in a lot of the posts, thinks it’s funny, and realizes that I’m humiliating us both because I care so much. It’s done out of love.

4: What kind of parenting advice have you received that you actually used in raising your little one?

I need to hover less. It was said maliciously, but I’ve realized that I do hover. I’m super chill. Super laid back, but when it comes to my daughter, I hover. Sometimes she just needs to run, explore and figure things out on her own. And I need to let her… But I’ll always be close by.

5. What do you hope to gain from blogging? What are your goals, where do you see it going?

The best thing I’ve gotten out of blogging is the dad community that comes along with the act of writing about kids. It’s an isolating thing, being a parent, and 24/7 I know I can find my Dad’s Group online. Someone will be there. Someone will be chatting. Whether it’s a dick joke or a kid problem, someone is reaching out.
